How to Repair Ride-On Toy Wheels

Ride-on toys are tons of fun for kids, but often wheels fall off and break. Repairing them is easy when you follow this simple guide. Plastic wheels are difficult to replace, and finding a spare part is not always easy. With proper maintenance you can avoid breakage, and repair many ride-on toy wheels.
First: Check and clean regularly
If a wheel seems stuck but does not appear broken, these simple steps can help solve the problem. The best way to avoid breaking plastic wheels is by making sure the axle is clean and straight. Use a wire brush to remove dirt and rust, and oil the contact points for moving parts to prevent deterioration. Check all nuts and bolts, and tighten any loose points. If this does not solve the problem, try the next step.
Second: Straighten the axle
Next, check that the axle rod is straight. Remove first the front, then the rear assembly. If the axle appears bent, either hammer it out on a wooden block, or replace it if the damage is too severe.
Third: Reparing wheels
If the wheel itself is broken, you might have to find a replacement part. If this is not possible, you can also make a replacement wheel out of wood. Drill out the rivets, and use a screwdriver to remove any brackets. Then attach the new wheel, making sure the hooks attach properly. Use a bolt to attach, but watch that it does not rub against the wheel.
